I adore concocting revitalizing beverages, and my Sweet Strawberry Iced Tea is an exceptional medley of sugary and tangy flavors. This drink’s base is made with 4 cups of cool water and 2 cups of juicy, ripe strawberries that give it a depth of fruity flavor.

A touch of 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice lends the beverage a brightness that almost makes it sparkling. Served over ice, it’s the kind of drink that’s perfect for sitting on the porch on a sunny afternoon.

How to Make this Strawberry Sweet Tea Recipe

Print Recipe (No Advertisments)

1. In a medium saucepan, combine 4 cups of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar. Heat over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely to make a simple syrup.

2. Place the hulled and sliced strawberries into the pot with the simple syrup. Stir to mix and place on the stovetop over high heat. Bring to a boil and watch carefully; this will boil over if left unattended. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Pour into a heatproof container and let cool slightly.

3. As the strawberry syrup simmers, boil 4 cups of water in another saucepan. Remove the saucepan from the heat, and steep 3 family-sized black tea bags in the water for 5-7 minutes. Then remove the tea bags.

4. Pour the strawberry blend through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher. Press the blend through the strainer to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids—that is, the seeds and any parts of the strawberry that are not in a liquid state.

5. Combine the strained strawberry syrup and the brewed tea in the pitcher with the strawberry liquid. Mix well.

6. Combine 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice with the tea to add a refreshing zing.

7. Combine all the ingredients well by adding 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher and stirring.

8. Keep the strawberry sweet tea in the fridge until it reaches a cool temperature. This should take at least 2 hours.

9. After it has been chilled, fill the glasses with ice cubes and pour the strawberry sweet tea over the top.

10. If desired, fresh mint leaves and sliced strawberries can be used to garnish the dish, which should then be served immediately.

FAQ

  • Can I use another sweetener instead of granulated sugar?Indeed, you can replace granulated sugar with honey, agave syrup, or a sugar substitute—altering proportions as necessary to achieve the desired sweetness.
  • Is there a specific type of black tea that works best?Any family-sized black tea bags will work, but Assam or English breakfast tea can provide a robust flavor.
  • How long should I steep the tea bags?To obtain a rich flavor, allow the tea bags to steep in hot water for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Can I use frozen strawberries instead of fresh?Indeed, you can use frozen strawberries; just be certain they are thawed before slicing them for better infusion.
  • How do I store leftover Strawberry Sweet Tea?Store it in the refrigerator in a covered pitcher, and it will be good for up to three days.
  • Can I make this recipe ahead of time?Certainly, make the tea a day in advance, refrigerate it, and then serve it on the rocks, with garnishments, if you like. It is excellent this way.
  • What other flavors can I add to this sweet tea?For further depth of flavor, consider adding a splash of vanilla extract or a few sprigs of fresh basil or mint while steeping the tea.

Strawberry Sweet Tea Recipe Substitutions and Variations

You can use honey or agave syrup for a different sweetness profile instead of granulated sugar.
If you want a caffeine-free choice, replace the black tea bags with herbal tea bags, such as hibiscus or rooibos.
If strawberries are not available, raspberries or blackberries can be used as an alternative.
Lime juice can substitute for lemon juice, giving a somewhat different citrus flavor.

Pro Tips

1. Balance the Sweetness If you find the tea too sweet or not sweet enough, adjust the amount of sugar or lemon juice to suit your taste. You can start with 3/4 cup of sugar and add more if needed.

2. Enhance the Strawberry Flavor For a stronger strawberry flavor, roast the strawberries in the oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 15 minutes before adding them to the simple syrup. This will intensify their sweetness and flavor.

3. Optimize the Tea Steeping Steep the tea bags closely to the recommended time, as over-steeping can turn the tea bitter. If you prefer a less bitter tea, you can steep for 5 minutes instead of 7.

4. Chill Quickly If you’re short on time, fill a large bowl with ice water and place the pitcher in it to cool the tea quickly before putting it in the refrigerator.

5. Infuse Additional Flavors Add a few slices of fresh ginger or a strip of lemon zest to the water while brewing the tea for an additional layer of flavor. Remove them before combining all ingredients.
